The beginning of the ethnographic collections were items collected at the first ethnographic exhibition organized during the celebration of the anniversary of Grunwald in 1910. It included, among others models of construction and home furnishings, dresses and embroidery, agricultural tools and blacksmith's products. The work on creating the museum was entrusted to Franciszek Kotula, known for his collector's interests. In the first period, the ethnographic, historical and archaeological monuments were collected. Probably around 1939, about 700 ethnographic exhibits were collected. Thanks to the individual interests of F. Kotula, his scientific and research activities or all initiatives, an archive was created containing various ethnographic materials regarding the region's past, i.e. texts of interviews with the oldest inhabitants of the village, photographs, drawings and cassette recordings. In 1964, the first permanent exhibition of the folk costume of Lasowiaków and Rzeszowiaków was made available. In 1966, a large exhibition of ancient folk sculpture was opened in the refectory. It enjoyed considerable interest among visitors, but due to the folk sculptures exhibited there, which were considered "religious propaganda", it was liquidated by the political authorities. In the 1960s and 1970s, approximately 3,500 examples of contemporary folk art were collected. Thanks to many years of efforts of F. Kotula, and then another director of the museum, Tadeusz Aksamit, since 1989. operates the Ethnographic Museum of F. Kotuli as a branch of the District Museum. At the "Everyday and Christmas Holidays" exhibition, everyday clothes as well as Christmas outfits are worn in the countryside at the end of the 19th and the beginning of the 20th century by Rzeszowiaks, Lasowiaks and Pogórzans. The exhibition shows the richness of folk costume and craftsmanship of folk manufacturers, which can become an inspiration in transferring patterns and motifs to contemporary artistic craftsmanship. In addition to clothing items, the exhibition includes ethnographic exhibits illustrating the subject of obtaining raw material, techniques of decorating clothing elements, as well as items related to care for appearance. All elements of costumes, ethnographic exhibits and archival photographs come from the collections of the Ethnographic Museum of Franciszek Kotula in Rzeszów. The exhibition is accompanied by a catalog "Every day and on holidays" and a website that allows you to expand the information obtained while visiting the exhibition (www.ubioryludowe.muzeumetnograficzne.rzeszow.pl) The exhibition was prepared on the 35th anniversary of the death of the patron of the Museum - Franciszek Kotula. The Museum's collection includes a rich collection of folk costumes that he initiated. The founder of the Museum is also the author of two parts of the Atlas of Polish Folk Costumes (Rzeszów Costume from 1951 and the Costume of Łańcut from 1953 - 65 years have passed since 2018), one of the first post-war studies on folk costumes and the publication 'Searching for metrics for folk costume "(1954). In total, Franciszek Kotula wrote 16 articles and publications on folk costumes. He also paid special attention to clothing items in field studies. Thanks to him, the Museum Archive is rich in notes describing the clothes worn by the inhabitants of the Rzeszów area, as well as photographs and drawings showing mainly details of the decorations. The concept of the exhibition takes into account new trends in exhibitions and the expectations of the modern recipient. In 2017, as part of the implemented task, selected objects from the collection were renovated and conserved (including a "hoop" - a belt made of metal members with a cone-shaped buckle, which in the 19th and early 20th centuries in the villages around Łańcuta and Przeworska was an important attribute of the bride's ritual wedding dress, put on a corset. The performers of this type of belt were Krakow craftsmen. The popular belief is that the rim was a guarantee of a successful marriage and numerous offspring.) The exhibition presents elements of the folk costume of Rzeszów, Przeworsk, Łańcut, Lasowiacki and Pogórzans, which are in the collections of our Museum. The exhibition presents everyday, holiday and ceremonial clothes as well as selected decorative elements in specific contexts and functions. It is supplemented with archival photographs from the museum photographic archive (some of them were taken in the well-known Edward Janusz factory in Rzeszów, operating in the years 1886-1950). The exhibition was implemented as part of the "Supporting museum activities" program co-financed by the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage and the Marshal of the Podkarpackie Voivodeship entitled "Modernization of the permanent exhibition" Every day and on holidays ". The project was carried out in cooperation with the Polish Society for Folklore.
