Jasło is located on the western edge of Dół Jasielsko-Sanocki, at the confluence of three rivers: Wisłoka, Jasiołka and Ropa. Already in the 12th century there was a settlement here, which received city rights in 1366. The city flourished in the 16th century, and this was due to trade with Russia and Hungary. It was in this city that Ignacy Łukasiewicz ran his pharmacy, and the first oil refinery in the world was established in Ulaszowice (now a city district).
