Address: Klasztorna 39 , 38-540 Zagórz
Monumental ruins of the 18th century late baroque church and monastery - stronghold of the fathers of the Discalced Carmelites in Zagórz in the province. Podkarpackie on the Mariemont hill (345 m a.s.l.) in the bend of the Osława River. One of the few preserved fortified monasteries in Poland and in the lands of the former Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth. A historic building protected by law since 1967. From May 2014, a 22-meter observation deck is available, located on the top of the restored southeast tower. From the observation platform you can admire the panorama of Zagórze, the bend of the Osława River, the Słonne Mountains, and even the Western Bieszczady Mountains, which are located a considerable distance away. A garden was also established (modeled on the former enclosed garden) in which fruit trees, shrubs and herbs were planted, and a rosarium was created. The garden has alleys and places for rest. In 1957, Karol Wojtyła visited the ruins of the Zagórski monastery during his wandering route in Bieszczady. The appropriate plaque in the ruins of the church, unveiled on May 3, 2007, is decorated with a characteristic papal cross and coat of arms. The inscription on the board reads: "He loved the Bieszczady Mountains and has returned here many times. The most outstanding tourist, Father Karol Wojtyla, grateful for the gift that was for Poland and the world John Paul II - Residents of the City and Commune of Zagórz." On July 18, 2010, a ceremonial mass was held at the monastery, during which a memorial plaque was unveiled containing 55 names of monks who had lived in Zagora caramel in the past centuries and are buried here. The inscription on the board reads: "Peace, passers-by. Hold your footsteps. Whoever rushes through the good of life can go on. But please, please stop. Look, knees to prayer, bend, because in the crypt of this church rest the earthly remains of the 55th fathers and brothers of the Discalced Carmelites, who in the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries brought the love of Christ in prayer and work to Zagórski Mariemont. " Podkarpackie is famous for many monuments. Some places are quite known, but I admit that about the monastery. Carmelites in Zagórze do not hear much. How did I find out about this place at all? Only from the Internet, because unfortunately, when I asked about interesting places in Podkarpacie, I never heard of Zagórz. And so many people I asked! Okay. I got there - better late than never! :) The ruins of the monastery date back to the 18th century. They are located on the Marymont Hill in the bend of the Osława River in the small town of Zagórz. I recommend this place especially to people who prefer a smaller urban buzz and want to relax, enjoying the charming views. Visits the ruins up to an hour. I highly recommend this place!
