The historic walls in Przeworsk in the Middle Ages performed defensive functions due to quite frequent attacks aimed at the settlement. The construction of the walls began in 1512, several years later King Sigismund issued a privilege confirming fortifications. Three gates led to the city: Łańcucka from the north-west, Jarosławska from the east and Kańczudzka from the south. Within the walls were five towers. Serious damage to the wall sections took place during the reign of the Austrian partitioner. Later, the "work" of demolition and devastation of the walls was completed by Germany during World War II. Currently, apart from the walls, not many fragments of fortifications have survived. Today, the only existing sections of the walls can be admired in two churches: the Basilica. Holy Spirit and the church and monastery of Fathers. Bernardine church St. Barbara.
