The first mention of the settlement comes from 1135. Baranów received city rights in 1354 at the hands of King Casimir the Great. The city developed thanks to the grain trade. At the end of the 16th century, crafts started to develop in Baranów Sandomierski, especially cloth making, furrier's and shoemaking. In Baranów Sandomierski there is a late Renaissance castle, due to similarities called the Little Wawel. The seat of the Leszczyński family was built according to the design of Santi Gucci in 1591-1606. It was built on the foundations of a previously existing fortress. Some of the rooms are open to visitors. The city is also worth seeing the late Renaissance church from 1604-1607. Originally it was built as a Calvinist church, it was expanded in the 19th century. The natural values of the Vistula valley result from the preservation of specific, often unique fauna, the presence of habitats characteristic of the valleys of unregulated rivers and rich vegetation. They constitute an ecological corridor of national importance, and it is also potentially a valuable recreational and tourist area.
